Question by Deborah: How do people survive esophegeal cancer?
They say whenever people discover that they have difficulty swallowing, it is too late for this cancer to be treated.

So my question is how does 5% of people manage to survive this cancer? Do they consult to doctor for something completely different and then the doctor discovers “by mistake” they have esophageal cancer. Can somebody help me with this?
Yes it’s the 5 year survival rate

The 5% number needs a definition. Is that the 5 year survival rate? Or some other number? Tell us what the context of that number is, and you will get a better answer.

No brainer to diagnose. Endoscope, biopsy, boom. Answer. Most people deny having trouble eating, or adapt until they start losing weight. People hate doctors, and I can understand that.

looks like between slim and none on the cancer because of what it is.

I’d see a dermatologist at a medical school practice if possible, They can easily refer to a derm surgeon if more care is needed.

Question by |||||||: Is there a Deodorant and cancer connection, and what natural alternative to use?
Do you think there is a connection between using deodorants and getting cancer? And what natural alternative would you use to deodorants?

Best answer:

Answer by inverse_mushroom_cloud
No proven connection.

If it makes you feel better, then use products that are “natural.” It won’t make any difference, but at least you won’t worry about cancer as much.

Question by augs67: What happens in the 4th stage of ovarian cancer How long is life expectancy in this final stage?
My best friend is in stage 4 of ovarian cancer. She has hospice at her house. It seems to me, that she only has a few weeks left to live. Can she continue to live for 3 or 4 more months? Or does it depend of the individual person? Her cancer has spread to many of her organs.

Question by Debra A: Our community is doing a fund raiser for cancer. How can we get someone famous to appear?
Our community is very small and close knit. The ratio of those with cancer in our community is about 1 to every four people. Our commuinty is located in an awesome valley with major biking trails and two ski resorts. The old Hiawatha train route has been revamped into a mrvelous bike trail with over 10 tressels and 10 tunnels, one beig 1.7 miles long. We would like to organize a bike ride for cancer and donate the proceeds to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Q&A: How to prevent getting cancer if you know it runs in your family?

Question by Marta: How to prevent getting cancer if you know it runs in your family?
I know there are DNA tests that can tell you if your probability of getting cancer is higher than average. But once you learn that the probabilty is higher indeed, what can you do to prevent cancer from developing? Is there any solution other than cutting out the endangered body part? I’ve heard of people who decided to remove their brests, uteruses and stomachs, but what if the cancer in question is leukemia or something like this?

BTW I am asking out of curiosity, so don’t be scared ^_^

Q&A: How do you deal with learning that a loved one has cancer?

Question by Kendra O: How do you deal with learning that a loved one has cancer?
My mother is at risk for thyroid cancer. Though I’ve heard it’s not necessarily a deadly cancer, the surgery to remove the nodule to lessen her pain has a death rate of 1/2. Her nodule has calcification, but we’re waiting to hear whether it’s malignant or benign.

How can I brace myself for the news if she has cancer? How do you possibly deal with learning that your mother will either die or be in pain for the rest of her life?

Trust in the Lord. Pray to God about it and don’t worry. God has a plan for everything and everything happens for a reason. Keep your trust in God.

Question by Abby P: What types of breast cancer create thickening of the skin?
My mom just found out she has a rarer form of breast cancer. Its not the type that is a lump, instead its a thickening of the skin. Its not inflammed or red looking it just feels thick I guess more like a callous and is about 3 inches long. Anyone hear of this type of breast cancer? I have done a search online but only come up with the Inflammatory cancer which I dont think this is. The doctor said its not really an aggressive form if that helps.
