Colon Cancer Prevention Methods

Most people develop colon cancer rather slowly, over one or two years. The 1st stage of development happens when a mass of tissues, growths or polyps ( a cluster of benign growths ) grow in the colon walls. Polyp type cancers can grow into the wall of the gut, occupy nearby lymph nodes and spread to other organs in the body.

This is named “metastatic colon cancer” due to its mobility. In a few cases, the lining of the bowel might be irregular and inflamed, that may also lead to cancer.

To stop colon cancer, regular testing is important after the age of 50. Before talking about colon cancer prevention, let’s rap a little about what colon cancer is, precisely. Both the bowel and anus are a part of the gut. The 1st part of the gut, which is the esophagus and stomach, breaks down food to be processed into energy.

Next, the broken down food travels to the small intestines / bowel, which is a narrow, 20-foot section that continues breaking down food and soaking up almost all of the nutriments. The small intestine then sends the leftover material to the five-foot-long colon ( which is also known as “the huge intestine” ), where it absorbs salt and water and stores waste.

The 1st part of the bowel is the rising colon, which is attached to the small intestines and the appendix on the right side of the stomach. The cross colon runs from a right to the left side of the higher stomach. The descending colon travels downward on the left side and the sigmoid colon is an S-shaped portion that passes food matter down to the lower colon, the final 6 inches of the guts, that may pass food out of the body through the anal sphincter.

Nobody is truly sure what precisely causes a colon cancer cell to develop in the 1st place, or why some experience a colon cancer recurrence, but research commends a selection of life-style, hereditary and environmental components are at play. It could be not possible to fully forestall cancer of the bowel, but the North American Cancer Society announces that catching colon cancer symptoms early through screening tests is the key. Regular colon cancer screening should begin at age fifty for the majority, unless they are in a serious risk class.

Every year, people should get a fecal occult blood test, which is done by sending a stool sample. A stool DNA test might also be done at that very same time, since it also uses a stool sample to collect results. Then, each 5 years, patients should get a flexible sigmoidoscopy, which involves a long, flexible tube that checks the last few feet of the gut for colon polyps, and a double-contrast barium enema that uses an xray and dye to test the higher portion of the bowel.

A virtual colonoscopy employing a CT scan machine also should be done each five years. A colonoscopy process involves the insertion of a long, flexible tube, light and camera to view the whole colon and should then be done each ten years, or each 5 years if any irregularities have been found during the other screenings. Ultimately , life changes are a crucial way to stop colon cancer. It doesn’t need to be said that smoking, indolence and exorbitant alcohol consumption are contributors to many varieties of adversary health conditions.

Cancer of the colon prevention involves eating the proper foods, including cabbage, Brussels sprouts, carrots, beets, onions, potatoes, broccoli, artichokes, celery, beans, peas, multi grain products, berries, cantaloupes, mangoes, persimmons and dried apricots, for example. Limit the quantity of red beef ( meat, pork, lamb ) and processed meats ( hot dogs, luncheon meats ), cooking meats at extremely high temperatures ( frying, sauting and barbecuing ) and saturated fats.

Ovarian Cancer Survival Rates – The Truth

Ovarian cancer survival rates are as ambiguous as a weather report that says such and such percent chance of rain today. Everyone knows it’s a hundred percent chance of rain when it’s raining, and zero when it’s not.

However to throw out the statistics in the standard way, according to the American Cancer Society more than 20,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year, and 15,000 will die from the disease.

Does that mean that three quarters of the women who receive an ovarian cancer prognosis are going to die? Not necessarily. On an individual basis it’s just like the weather prediction for rain.

It really all depends on how a women wants to go about treating her cancer whether she survives, dies, or if she has an ovarian cancer recurrence. Of course there are innumerable variables to be factored in such as her age, the type of cancer, how soon she discovered it, and how quickly she began dealing with it.

If you want to be technical there are more than 30 different types of ovarian cancer all of which are categorized by the type of cell where they originate.

If you want to be brutally honest and I want to, cancer is cancer. Regardless of the type or stage, it’s manifest due to a weakened immune system and the only hope to overcoming it will be by freeing up and assisting the body’s own immune responses. There are so many excellent remedies for performing both those task in the world of holistic cancer treatments, and more being uncovered all the time.

To start, besides stating the obvious of avoiding all foods that feed cancer such as sugar and foods or substances that weaken the immune system, a good cleansing fast is initially recommended.

A juice fast is standard, drinking only fresh carrot, beet, apple, and ginger juice for example, to cleanse the colon and rejuvenate the liver. Periodic colon and liver cleanses are similarly helpful as is a diet of green foods along with other super foods.

There are so many herbal remedies such as Essiac tea and amazingly effective diets such as The Budwig and Hallelujah Diet. The list is all but endless. Why not take advantage of all of them? If you do the research into alternative cancer cures and become seriously committed, your chances of not being one of the more than seventy-five percent of women who according to ovarian cancer survival rates succumb to the disease, are as good as a zero chance of rain when the sun is shining.

Cancer Wigs: Solutions for Chemo-Related Hair Loss

DID YOU KNOW? “A woman’s fear over losing her hair can top the fear of losing her life to Cancer?” – Jan Ping

Emmy-award–winning TV hairstylist and cosmetologist and Cancer-survivor herself, Jan Ping, found this out first-hand when she began working with Cancer patients in the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good Feel Better” program.

“It’s so personal how people feel about their hair,” says Ping. It might help to understand how your scalp is changing and how to choose a wig for your total hair loss condition.

What can I expect?

According to hair loss experts, your scalp undergoes changes as hair is falling out and becomes very sensitive. You may notice hair loss in clumps and you may notice the texture of what hair you have left changing, becoming thin and fuzzy. Stylists and hair loss professionals are there to help ease your feels and deal with hair loss issues as they arise.

1.     Ask for privacy: When you go to see your stylist for help with your hair loss, ask the receptionist for a private area when you make the appointment over the phone, especially if you are very self-conscious. Most stylists will do everything they can to accommodate your feelings…and if they won’t, switch salons!

2.    Tell all: Tell your stylist or hair loss professional all about your hair loss issues, why it is happening, what diagnosis the doctor gave you, what medications you are on and anything else that could be important. This way you can work together to make an appropriate plan to deal with your hair loss as seamlessly as possible.

3.    Get lots of trims: You’ll need to come every few weeks to keep hair trimmed up until you decide to shave it all off or it all falls out.  Salon owner Ouidad, a Cancer survivor and hairstylist, says that trimming shorter also allows you to clearly see the shape of your head and scalp so it is not so shocking once hair is totally gone.

4.    Shave it all off: At some point, you may just want to ask your stylist to shave it all off. But don’t shave it too short, cautions Carol Galland, founder of Headcovers.com and Cancer-survivor herself, “If you shave it too short, it feels like needles sticking your head when you rest it on a pillow!”

Also, watch out for shavers and scissors – don’t be afraid to double-check with your stylist that they have been properly sterilized, because infection is an issue when your immune system may be comprised by chemotherapy, caution doctors and stylists alike.

5.    Have a fit: A Cancer wig fitting that is.  And do it before hair falls out and your original style is lost, advises Diahna Husbands, owner of Diahna Lynn Hair Studio in Maryland. Also if you do this early enough in the game, you’ll come in with hair and leave with new hair that looks the same so there is no awkward transition, advises Husbands.

Options for Oncology-related Hair Loss

For oncology-related hair loss, you can choose any of the usual wig types or you can investigate an actual medical prosthesis for medically related hair loss that breathes like your own skin and is capable of giving you a more natural, healthier appearance. These devices can replace all of your hair and allow you to sleep, shower and perform your normal daily activities, which can go a long way toward helping you feel a lot better.

Ideally, you should find a high-end professional before you lose your hair. Once you know you are going to endure chemotherapy treatments, a hair loss professional that specializes in hair systems can design a hair system for you that exactly matches your existing hair and style, color and density.

This eliminates the need for wigs and scarves after the procedure. According to Andrew Pollard, co-founder of White Cliffs Hair Studio in London, “it is a fact that a patient who achieves and maintains a healthy image while recovering from the trauma of chemotherapy will benefit tremendously from it.  It actually helps the healing process.”

The bottom line

Look for people who make you feel good, who want to help you look and feel better … avoid negativity.  Actually, says Husbands, ”It may seem terrible at first, but I’ve seen women turn it into a fun thing and order a few different wigs for different looks – they see it as a way to express personality and I agree!”

How Many People Die From Cancer Each Year?

In 2005, cancer struck an estimated 1.4 million people in North America. There are about 565,650 Americans expected to die of cancer in 2008, killing more than 1,500 people each day and it is accounted for 1 of every 4 deaths. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart diseases, and if current trends continue, it is expected to be the leading cause of death by the year 2010.

The good news is that early detection, diagnosis and treatment have improved the odds dramatically. In 1995, over 50% of cancer patients survived five years or more after diagnosis and treatment. The American Cancer Society estimates that an additional 25-30% of all cancer deaths could be prevented with earlier diagnosis and treatment.

So what is cancer? Even though it is often referred to as a single ailment such as lung cancer, bladder cancer, liver cancer etc., cancer actually consists of more than 100 different diseases, all characterized by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells.

Cancer can occur in many areas of the body and behaves differently depending on its types and origin. Cancer is caused by both external factors (tobacco, chemicals, radiation and infectious organisms) and internal factors (inherited mutations, hormones, immune conditions, and mutations that occurs from metabolism). It often takes ten or more years from exposure to external factors and a detectable cancer.

Cancer is identified by uncontrolled cell division and cell death caused by cumulative damage to important regulatory genes. Generally, multiple genes must be damaged for a cancer to grow and to develop the capacity to spread, also known as metastasis.

Cancers that seem to run in families may be hereditary or may signify similar family environmental exposure to substances that cause cell damage such as polluted, water, soil and radiation. A person identified with a specific genetic marker can choose to take preventive action such as regular medical checkups, self-exams, and lifestyle changes involving diet and exercise.

If your family history shows that certain diseases have occurred repeatedly in the past, you must be diligent about getting regular screening examinations for these diseases. Check with your health-care professional or the local American Cancer Society for more information about evaluations or cancer screenings.

There are many things we can do to prevent cancer development, and drinking adequate amount of water and the quality of the water we consume everyday has a lot to do with our health. Many studies suggest that there are links between certain cancers and the drinking water contaminants here in the US and Canada.

About 70% of the bodies’ weight is water. It is the very thing the body needs most. Water is accountable for many body functions. Drinking enough clean and fresh water not only improves your overall health and well-being, it may also prevent you from many ailments, sicknesses and cancer development

The quantity and quality of the water you drink are equally important. Give your body the quality water it deserves and in turn, it will serve you with the optimal health and appearance you have always desired. Breast Cancer Types

Breast cancer type is categorized by whether it begins in the ducts or lobules, the organs responsible for breast milk production. Medullary carcinoma accounts for 15% of all breast cancer types.

The investigators found that reproductive risk factors varied considerably by breast cancer subtype. Their analysis included 1,023 women with breast cancer whose cells express the estrogen and progesterone receptors (called luminal cancers), 39 women with HER2-overexpressing breast cancer, and 78 triple-negative cases (no expression of estrogen, progesterone, or HER2 receptors).

The study also included 1,476 women without breast cancer. They added that additional studies on the causes of breast cancer subtypes are needed to better understand the biology of the disease. Learn more about our commitment to providing complete, accurate, and private breast cancer information.

The study?s results suggest that there are distinct and separate hormonal risk factors associated with different subtypes of breast cancer. Women with what is referred to as “triple-negative” breast cancer are more likely than other women with breast cancer to experience a relapse, a new study by Canadian researchers shows.

Despite having a high risk of early recurrence, the study indicates that triple-negative breast cancer patients who remain disease-free for eight years are unlikely to die of breast cancer and may be “cured” of their disease.

Breast Feeding Will Lowers Risk Of Breast Cancer

Breastfeeding for 6 months or longer was associated with a lower risk of luminal cancer as well as triple-negative cancer, a type that can be particularly aggressive and difficult to treat. Understanding the specific type of breast cancer can help you ask better questions and work with your physicians to get the best breast cancer treatments.

Breast Cancer Risk

The study’s results suggest that there are distinct and separate hormonal risk factors associated with different subtypes of breast cancer. Amanda Phipps, a predoctoral research associate at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, and her colleagues conducted a study to better understand the specific risk factors for the subtypes of breast cancer, which are classified by expression of the estrogen receptor, the progesterone receptor, and the HER2 receptor.

The investigators found that reproductive risk factors varied considerably by breast cancer subtype. Breastfeeding for 6 months or longer was associated with a lower risk of luminal cancer as well as triple-negative cancer, a type that can be particularly aggressive and difficult to treat.

Both late age at menopause and use of estrogen plus progestin hormone therapy were associated with an increased risk of luminal disease. Finally, no differences in risks associated with number of children or the age when a woman first gave birth were observed by subtype.

The study authors concluded that their results indicate that “certain reproductive factors may have a greater impact on risk of certain molecular subtypes of disease compared to others. Despite having a high risk of early recurrence, the study indicates that triple-negative breast cancer patients who remain disease-free for eight years are unlikely to die of breast cancer and may be “cured” of their disease. Insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, and changes in the signaling of growth hormones and steroid hormones associated with diabetes may affect the risk of breast cancer.

Despite many proposed potential pathways, the mechanisms underlying an association between diabetes and breast cancer risk remain unclear, particularly because the 2 diseases share several risk factors, including obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, and possibly intake of saturated fat and refined carbohydrates, that may confound this association.

Although the metabolic syndrome is closely related to diabetes and embraces additional components that might influence breast cancer risk, the role of the metabolic syndrome in breast carcinogenesis has not been studied and thus remains unknown.

What is Skin Cancer? What you need to know

Skin cancer, although it seems small, can be quite deadly if it is not caught on time. As for how it develops, the cancer develops when DNA is damaged beyond repair. The cells that are damaged then grow and divide at a rate that is uncontrollable. When this damage occurs in the skin and the cells grow and divide uncontrollably, skin cancer is the result. The damaged cells will continue to multiply and that will cause a tumor.

The cancer usually develops in the epidermis, which is the outermost skin layer. That is why the skin cancer tumor is usually quite visible. This is why skin cancer is usually detectable in the early stages.

Sun exposure seems to be the main reason why skin cancer develops. The American Cancer Society has stated that most of the 1 million cases of skin cancer that are diagnosed each year could be prevented with proper sun ray protection. It is the UV rays from the sun that causes DNA to become damaged.

The body is such an amazing machine that it can usually repair this DNA damage, but there is a time in which that repair may not take place. Cumulative sun exposure can cause this and later lead to skin cancer. This is why some individuals do not develop skin cancer until 30 or 40 years after they have had the extensive sun exposure.

What do the different types of skin cancer look like?

There are different types of skin cancer that a person can acquire.

There are actually 3 main types. These 3 types account for all of the cases of skin cancer. What makes them different is the fact that these 3 cancers start in different skin cells. This is how each cancer gets their name; they are named based on the cell that they develop from.

It is also important to note that there are two classes of skin cancers. The first class is nonmelanoma skin cancers and the second is melanoma skin cancers. Melanoma is the deadliest type of skin cancer.

Here are the three different types:

• Basal Cell Carcinoma – This is the most common form of skin cancer. More than 1 million people in the United States develop this form of cancer, which also means around 80% of all skin cancers are of this type.

This type of skin cancer develops in the basal cells. These are cells that are present in the lowest layer of the epidermis. It can take on several forms. It can appear as a pearly nodule or it can appear as a nodule that is translucent. The sore may continuously heal and then re-open. The growth may also be elevated and slightly pink. Some individuals may even notice a waxy scar or a reddish patch of skin that simply looks irritated.

Basal cell carcinoma usually shows up on areas of the skin that have been exposed to the sun. This means it is common to find this sort of cancer on the face, the nose, the head, the ears, the arms, chest, and other areas of the upper body that have dealt with sun exposure. It can take years for these tumors to grow to a size of about ½ inch. The good news, however, is that these tumors don’t usually metastasize, which means it doesn’t spread to other parts of the body. The main issue is damage of the surrounding tissue.

• Squamous Cell Carcinoma – This type of skin cancer accounts for approximately 16% of all skin cancer cases. The cancer starts in the squamous cell, which are the skin cells that are found in the upper layer of the epidermis. About 200,000 people are diagnosed with this each year. Those individuals who are most susceptible are those that have fair skin and are middle-aged or elderly and have had extensive sun exposure in the past.

As for the appearance, the cancer appears as a crusty or scaly area of skin that is red and inflamed at the base. This area looks like a growing tumor, an ulcer that won’t heal, or a patch of skin that is crusted over. This is also a cancer that tends to be found on areas of the skin that have been exposed to the sun. However, it can be found virtually anywhere on the skin, including the genitalia and the inside of the mouth.

This is a form of skin cancer that needs early intervention because it can metastasize, causing the cancer to spread to other areas of the body.

• Melanoma – Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. About 4% of skin cancers are melanoma and it begins in the melanocytes, which are the cells within the skin that give it its color. This is the most lethal form of skin cancer because of its ability to rapidly spread to the internal organs and the lymph system.

Every single hour, there is one person in the United States who has died from Melanoma. The highest mortality rate is amongst white Caucasian men. It is believed that this is because men are more likely to not pay attention to the early warning signs.

Fortunately, when caught on time, Melanoma has a 95% chance of being cured. However, the prognosis is not very good once it starts spreading. The reason why it can be hard to identify is the fact that melanoma will develop on an existing mole or it may look like a new mole that has developed. This is why it is important for individuals to be familiar with the appearance of their moles so they can notice whether or not the appearance changes. If the appearance changes, that is a sign that melanoma may be present.

There are other nonmelanoma skin cancers that are in existence, but they do account for less than 1% of skin cancers. These nonmelanoma skin cancers include Merkel cell carcinoma, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, and dermatofibromasarcoma protuberans.

Facts and symptoms of skin cancer

As for who gets skin cancer, individuals of all different colors are susceptible to it. However, it is most common in individuals with fair skin. Individuals who have a tendency to burn, have a lot of freckles, or who have a family history of skin cancer are also quite susceptible to it. In individuals with dark colored skin, melanoma can develop in areas that have never been exposed to the sun. But this isn’t saying that individuals with light skin can’t have it develop in these areas as well.

Unfortunately, the number of skin cancer cases is on the rise. People do know that excess sun exposure can lead to skin cancer, but most do not do what they need to protect their skin from the sun’s rays. If these trends continue, 1 in 5 people in America will have skin cancer at some point in their life. Melanoma is actually becoming more prevalent in women between the ages of 20 and 29.

When skin cancer is suspected, two types of biopsies may take place.

The first is the excisional biopsy, which means the entire tumor and tissue not related to the tumor is also removed. This is the best way to remove legions that are suspected melanoma.

The second is the incisional biopsy, which just a portion of the area is removed in order to acquire a sample. The sample or the tumor is then examined under a microscope to determine if it is really cancer and, if so, what kind of cancer it is.

Hot to treat skin cancer

A biopsy is done to determine if skin cancer is really the issue. From here, a dermatologist will discuss the best treatment options. The treatment depends on the type of skin cancer, the location of it, how bad it is, how aggressive it is, and the overall health of the patient.

In some cases, the skin cancer may just need to be removed through a very minor surgery. In more extreme cases, the skin cancer may need to be removed and radiation or chemotherapy treatments administered, especially if the cancer has metastasized.

The main goal of skin cancer treatments is to remove the cancer completely, reduce the chances of it coming back, and make sure healthy tissue is preserved. It is also very important to minimize the scarring after surgery has taken place.

How to prevent skin cancer

The prevention of skin cancer lies in protecting the skin from the sun’s harmful rays. The instance of skin cancer occurring is reduced significantly when protected from the sun. It is also idea to stay out of the sun between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. When the rays are the strongest, a broad spectrum sunscreen can offer quite a bit of protection. It is also recommended that individuals use a sunscreen of an SPF 15 or higher year round can be quite helpful.

It is also ideal to cover the skin when possible. Wear hats when in the sun and try to reduce the amount of exposed skin without overheating.

Pancreatic Cancer Patients Find Promising Treatment That Diminishes Tumor Size

General Comments Off

The University of Colorado Hospital has recently embarked on what news reports have deemed a "groundbreaking medical trial" for patients suffering from pancreatic cancer. The trial uses a new technique designed to "shrink the tumor with very concentrated, very localized medication," according to 7 Denver News, a local television news casting station.

Physicians have been using a combination of the drug known as Tumor Necrosis Factor along with Imaged Guided Radiation Therapy technology. The therapy works in two phases, with the first phase administered each week as "doctors use an endoscope through the mouth to the stomach to deliver the drug and inject it directly into the tumor," reported 7 Denver News. In the second phase, the tumor, which is now drug-filled, is subject to a daily blast of radiation, which attempts to stimulate the drug until the tumor begins to break down.

While the trial continues to be conducted, physicians with the study have already noted that, "patients with the standard treatment survive about eight-and-a-half months and that patients with this new treatment live about eleven-and-a-half months."

Pancreatic Cancer Signs and Symptoms

Pancreatic cancer occurs when cancerous cells "begin in the ducts of the pancreas, but they sometimes develop from the cells of that make the pancreatic enzymes," according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). The Mayo Clinic also explained that there are several signs and symptoms of the pancreatic cancer including the following:

* loss of appetite

* depression

* weight loss

* yellowing of the skin

* yellowing of the whites of the eyes

* upper abdominal pain

There are a number of reasons that pancreatic cancer can occur, however, one of the most recent risks is that of Byetta consumption. Byetta is a type 2 diabetes drug that is prescribed to patients as an injectable form of insulin to regulate glucose levels in individuals. The drug was released in 2005 from Amylin Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly and Company. Recently, the drug was linked to the onset of pancreatitis, which can develop into pancreatic cancer if left untreated.

In 2008, approximately six patients were hospitalized for their Byetta-induced side effects of acute pancreatitis. Of the six patients, two resulted in fatality. Patients who have experienced the Byetta dangers are advised to discuss their case with a pharmaceutical attorney who can offer a free legal consultation as to the development of a Byetta class action lawsuit, which may result in the reward of monetary funds for a Byetta patient. By contacting a professional attorney an individual increases the protection of themselves and their family members.

Obesity Causing More than 100,000 New Cancer Cases Every Year

General Comments Off
Silhouettes representing healthy, overweight, ...

Approximately a third of American adults are classed as obese and numbers are increasing.  Although there is a known link between cancer and obesity, the American Institute for Cancer Research has published an alarming analysis revealing the levels of cancer cases being directly linked to excess weight.

33,000 cases of breast cancer and linked to obesity; 20,700 cases of endometrial cancer; 13,900 kidney cancer cases, with 13,200 being colorectal cancers, 11,900 pancreas; 5,800 esophagus and 2,000 cases of gall bladder cancer; all linked with obesity and its related problems.

41,000 new cancer cases in the US in 2002 were attributed directly to obesity and Michael Thun, emeritus Vice President of Epidemiological Research of the American Cancer Society, notes that other cancers are suspected to be linked with cancer but are yet to be confirmed, such as multiple myeloma; liver and some strains of leukaemia. Obese people who weigh in at 30 pounds or more in excess bulk are in a much higher risk group for heart disease and other weight related diseases such as Diabetes. The National Cancer Institute notes that lack of exercise and obesity account for up to 30% of breast, colon and endometrial, kidney and esophagal cancer.

Also, acid reflux, which is related to esophagus cancer, is more often found to be associated with those who are overweight and cancer.

Cancer has also been found to be closely associated with insulin resistance and insulin.  Higher levels are found in obese people: cell division is stimulated by insulin and cancer is the penalty of cellular growth that is not under control.

Obesity is caused by consuming too much high calorie, high fat and low nutrition food, combined with a lack of exercise and generally leading a sedentary life.  The increased risk of cancer can be significantly reduced by adhering to a controlled and well balanced diet, getting the right amount of exercise each day and generally improving quality of life.

Pancreatic Cancer Life Expectancy – Treatment Review

Can pancreatic cancer life expectancy be improved? The American Cancer Society gives low survival rates for pancreatic cancer, but survivor, Karon Beattie, has compiled a treatment reference book with more than 350 alternative treatments that have been used by thousands of cancer patients to overcome their prognosis, including pancreatic cancer.

Although it is often not diagnosed until it has spread, Beattie gives numerous accounts of people surviving pancreatic cancer by natural treatments. She states that these treatments are not covered by the FDA and usually not patentable by drug companies, resulting in low knowledge among doctors.

Beattie reports that some physicians have used a nutritional supplement to achieve complete remission of aggressive, stage IV cancers that had metastasized.

Specifically in relation to pancreatic cancer, Beattie’s book, “Natural Cancer Treatments That Work”, describes how an English doctor used a herbal mixture to treat a pancreatic cancer patient, alive four years later, long after oncologists had forecast.

Beattie outlines how a London biochemist developed a treatment 20 years ago that knocks out the mitochondria or ‘energy centers’ in cancer cells, leaving normal cells unharmed. The low-cost treatment is supported by over 50 research papers and has succeeded in treating numerous cancers, including pancreatic, yet the biochemist has been unable to get authorities to trial his method further. This seems an astonishing outcome for a cancer given a poor prognosis by oncologists.

In addition, the author provides 45 first-hand accounts of people who beat pancreatic cancer using natural and alternative treatments. If stories like this are true, why are they not used as a mainstream treatment for pancreatic and other cancers?

According to Beattie, despite the fact that the creators of the treatments listed in her book are respected health scientists, few of the treatments have been formally evaluated in human clinical trials. There is little financial incentive for drug companies in natural treatments that cannot be patented, yet thousands of cancer survivors have successfully used the treatments. Beattie also suggests that many doctors may not be aware of these treatments because they know how to prescribe treatments regulated by the FDA. Many of the alternative treatments she lists involve herbs and vitamins that are beyond the FDA’s jurisdiction.

Cancer sufferers and their loved ones will find these compelling accounts hard to ignore in their quest to survive and reclaim their lives.

Cancer cells do not age, do not become weaker as they grow older, and therefore hold a huge advantage over our healthy cells.

The Cancer Coalition (American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, FDA, Prominent Hospitals, and of course The Pharmaceutical ‘Godfathers’ want us to depend on them to come up with treatments, so we fund them with millions and millions of dollars, yet still no cure, not even a good treatment.

They want us to trust them, so they bolster the true success rates of conventional cancer treatments. They want us to feel protected, so they legislate what treatments doctors can use, and label doctors that stray from those treatments and poor results as “quacks” or worse yet take away their license to practice. The fact that when you think of cancer, chemo, radiation and surgery pop into mind is a testament that they have run an incredible PR campaigned to make you think these treatments actually work. want us to depend on them to come up with treatments, so we fund them with millions and millions of dollars, yet still no cure, not even a good treatment.
